New Funding Announced Through YHA Outdoor Citizens.

YHA (England & Wales) have secured two pots of funding to support the work of Outdoor Citizens members. These funding pots are now open for application.

About YHA Outdoor Citizens

Outdoor Citizens is a free membership community – hosted and administered by YHA (England & Wales). YHA are supporting and resourcing the work of Outdoor Citizens members through a range of benefits. Including free meeting rooms, discounted accommodation and access to funding.

All The Elements supports Outdoor Citizens as a development partner and we also partner with them to run The Outdoor Connection.

Funding Pot One - Supported by The Pilgrim Trust

This funding is available if you are:

  • Are a new group or organisation set up in the last 12 months.

  • Have limited experiencing of applying for funding or have never applied for funding from anywhere before.

  • Require funding that will do one or more of the following:

    • support training/upskilling of your volunteers or staff.

    • support introductory experiences/confidence building in outdoor activity for your community participants.

    • build the experiences of your local community through a YHA hostel stay to allow your outdoor activity to happen in a new venue.

It is anticipated that the funding available to a single organisation will be between £1000 and £3000.

There is no set deadline for this fund, it is allocated on a first come first served basis. However, delivery of the funded project must be complete by February 2025.

Funding Pot Two - Supported by Natural England

This funding is to support communities who can facilitate or already have a connection with nature recovery activities and would like to develop this side of their work.

Nature recovery means ‘activity that protects, improves, manages or restores the natural environment’ - for example tree planting, removal of invasive species, habitat restoration or citizen science projects. It will most likely involve working in partnership with another organisation/provider - for example a nature reserve site or local conservation group.

Outdoor Citizens recognise that this may be a new area to lots of groups and will be very happy to chat and help develop ideas if that is helpful, drawing on our network and knowledge to help shape project ideas.

It is anticipated that the funding available to a single organisation will be between £1000 and £3000.

There is no set deadline for this fund, it is allocated on a first come first served basis. However, delivery of the funded project must be complete by March 2025.

How to Apply:

In the first instance please email ginamccabe@yha.org.uk with a brief outline of your plans or any questions you may have. There is a new application form for both the above funds so please do not use any old forms you may have as they will not be accepted.

All applicants must be a member of Outdoor Citizens and working in a not-for-profit capacity at a grassroots level, with a focus on opening up access to the outdoors for any of our target audiences - if you would like to find out more about becoming a member of Outdoor Citizens you can also email Gina on the above email address.
